Register and join us at the Ocracoke Community Building for a hands-on classes leading up to the Fig Festival later in the week. Fig cakes are a common treat amongst those who have access to the sweet fruit. However, maybe you're looking for something a little less sweet at times. Fig bread is for you! It is made similarly to other fruit breads, like banana or apple bread. It can be made as a loaf or muffins. All you need are fresh, ripe figs to get this recipe started!

Registration is limited to 12 participants per class and is required.

FIG BREAD Registration: August 1, 9:30 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.

Fig preserves are a much loved preservation method for this delicious fruit, but it is a very time-consuming method. Have you ever tried making fig jam instead?

Fig jam is prepared and canned within a 2-3 hour time frame, as opposed to preserves that must be boiled for lengthy amount of time, set in the fridge, and warmed again before canning. This preservation method is safe for shelf stability, so you can make tons and leave it on your shelf all year round to enjoy your summer/early fall harvest!

FIG JAM Registration: August 2, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
