Paraquat Training
EPA-approved paraquat training is required for anyone who mixes, loads, applies, or transports open containers of paraquat-containing products. This training must be completed every three years. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate.
Please review your certificate to determine whether it is time to renew your training. If you are unable to locate your certificate, contact the Hyde County Extension Office for assistance.
Paraquat training will be held at the Hyde Co. Government Center (30 Oyster Creek Rd, Swan Quarter) on February 5th at 8:30 a.m. This training is approved for 1 hour of X, N, D, O credits.
Respirator Fit Testing
Remember, if you are using ANY pesticides that require respiratory protection on the label, you must be medically cleared and fit tested for a respirator. This includes disposable masks. (I don’t make the rules, I just make sure you know about them.)
If you need to be fit tested for a respirator, please call the Hyde County Health Department (926-4399) as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. They will be offering fit testing on February 10th & 24th, but appointment slots are very limited. This will be your only chance to get fit testing done in the county.
Please sign up so the health department will continue to offer this important service. Again, if you are spraying ANYTHING that requires any kind of respiratory projection, YOU MUST BE FIT TESTED ANNUALLY. You can obtain medical clearance from your primary care physician or schedule a medical clearance appointment at the health department prior to your fit testing.
